Reserve a Danube cruise for arrival evening first — it’s low-effort and a good introduction to the skyline. Then book a guided Buda Castle tour, a Parliament interior tour or a Jewish Quarter walking tour (Parliament slots are the most limited product in this itinerary and sell out weeks ahead in summer, so book that one as soon as your dates are fixed if seeing the interior matters to you), a thermal bath experience, a Danube Bend package, and a full-day trip to Eger, Vienna, or Lake Balaton. Leave one afternoon unbooked for jet lag, heat, or a plain Jewish Quarter wander. Two long day-trip days back to back will sour the week — separate the Danube Bend and the Eger/Vienna/Balaton day with a soft city day if your schedule allows.

Day 1 — Arrive and a Danube river cruise

Pick a base in District V, District VII, or Újlipótváros rather than a cheap hotel far from a metro line.
