Weekly booking priority
Reserve the Ayutthaya day tour and floating-market package first — both sell out popular morning departures in the cool, dry November–February high season. Add the Grand Palace and temple tour and a Kanchanaburi package next. Fill gaps with a river cruise and a street-food or cooking-class evening. Leave one afternoon unbooked for weather or simply resting. Two full-day outer packages in a row will sour the week — separate Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi with a softer temple or food day.
- Ayutthaya or floating market → Grand Palace & temples → Kanchanaburi → river cruise → food tour → free day
- Avoid two full-day outer packages back-to-back
- Hotel pickup saves BTS/MRT transfers on early Ayutthaya or Kanchanaburi mornings
- Confirm free-cancellation windows given Bangkok’s frequent afternoon monsoon showers
The itinerary at a glance
- Day 1 — Arrive; river cruise evening
- Day 2 — Guided Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun package
- Day 3 — Ayutthaya day tour package
- Day 4 — Floating market package (Damnoen Saduak & Maeklong, or Amphawa)
- Day 5 — Kanchanaburi & River Kwai day tour package
- Day 6 — Chinatown food tour or cooking class package
- Day 7 — Soft farewell; optional second food tour
Day 1 — Arrive and river cruise
Orientation through water beats a jet-lagged Grand Palace queue. An afternoon or sunset Chao Phraya river cruise — anything from a simple longtail loop to a dinner cruise — gives you bearings and a first proper look at temples and bridges without choosing a route alone. Keep the rest of the day light: Rabbit Card setup, hotel check-in, short walk if energy allows, early sleep.
Live Chao Phraya river & canal cruises
Live experience cards load in the article for: chao phraya, river cruise, canal tour.
Day 2 — Grand Palace and temples
A guided Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun tour covers dress-code timing, royal history, and temple etiquette you might miss alone. Pair it with a free afternoon near the Old Town or a soft riverside revisit — no coach day. This is the cultural anchor of the week; do not dilute it with Ayutthaya the same day unless you enjoy back-to-back ruin fatigue.
Live Grand Palace, Wat Pho & Wat Arun tours
Live experience cards load in the article for: grand palace, wat pho, wat arun, temple tour.
Day 3 — Ayutthaya day tour
Bundled round-trip transport with a guide explaining the fall of the Siamese capital at Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, and Wat Chaiwatthanaram. Some products return via a Chao Phraya river cruise instead of a coach — worth the small premium for a scenic finish. This is the week’s first full-day outer excursion; pace tomorrow lighter if the heat and walking wore you out.
Live Ayutthaya day tours
Live experience cards load in the article for: ayutthaya.
Day 4 — Floating market package
Floating-market packages solve the timing puzzle that makes these markets hard to DIY well — a guide who knows the current train schedule can stitch Damnoen Saduak’s early-morning canals with a Maeklong Railway Market stop, or you can pick an Amphawa-and-firefly-boat package for a calmer afternoon-into-evening alternative. Check whether the product includes an early Damnoen Saduak start (before the tour-bus crowds) or leans toward the more local Amphawa experience.
Live floating market tours (Damnoen Saduak, Amphawa & Maeklong)
Live experience cards load in the article for: floating market, damnoen, amphawa, maeklong.
Day 5 — Kanchanaburi and the Bridge on the River Kwai
The week’s most history-heavy day. Kanchanaburi packages handle the roughly five-to-six-hour round trip and typically add a guide’s explanation of the Death Railway’s WWII history at the JEATH Museum, Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, and the bridge itself. Some products include a short ride on the historic railway or extend to Hellfire Pass. Simple dinner after — you will be tired from a genuinely long day of transit and walking.
Live Kanchanaburi & River Kwai day tours
Live experience cards load in the article for: kanchanaburi, river kwai, death railway.
Day 6 — Chinatown food tour or cooking class
A guided street-food tour through Chinatown’s Yaowarat Road or a Thai cooking class with market shopping included is the ideal softer day after two long outer excursions. A local leads you through stalls and dishes you would never confidently order from alone, or teaches you to recreate a Thai curry at home. This is a good day to also fold in some last-minute shopping — Chinatown’s gold shops and side markets reward a slow browse.
Live Bangkok food, street food & cooking class tours
Live experience cards load in the article for: food tour, street food, cooking class.
Day 7 — Soft farewell
Leave day 7 mostly open: Chatuchak Weekend Market if it lands on a Saturday or Sunday, a neighbourhood you skipped, or a morning mall visit for last-minute souvenirs before airport check-in. A second street-food tour works if day 6 felt too rushed to remember much. Avoid a noon tasting if your flight is mid-afternoon — browse live options, then leave margin for airport traffic and security.
Live Bangkok food & street food tours (farewell)
Live experience cards load in the article for: food tour, street food.
Where to stay for this itinerary
Pick a base near the riverside, Sukhumvit, or the Old Town rather than a cheap hotel far outside BTS or MRT range. Riverside and Old Town keep evening walks short after long tour days; Sukhumvit suits early terminal departures. For packages with hotel pickup, confirm your area is in the pickup zone before you book an apartment on the wrong side of town.
- Prioritise BTS/MRT access over a room with a rooftop pool view
- Compact rooms are normal — travel light (packing tips)
- Confirm pickup zone coverage before booking any package with hotel pickup
Tickets, weather, and timing
Ayutthaya, floating-market, and Kanchanaburi day tours sell out morning departures in the November–February high season. Book before you fly. Afternoon monsoon showers are near-daily in some seasons and can shuffle outdoor plans — build one flexible half-day and keep a cooking class or food tour as an indoor swap.
Guided vs independent
A full guided week is efficient and removes every day-trip logistics headache. Mix with DIY neighbourhood walks from the Bangkok guide when you want street-food time at your own pace.
