5-day Ko Lanta itinerary with guided tours

A guided Ko Lanta five-day plan with Koh Haa, a second island day, land experiences and a weather buffer.

5-day Ko Lanta itinerary with guided tours

A five-day guided Ko Lanta itinerary pairs two carefully chosen boat days with enough beach time to recover from them. Let hotel pickups, crews and park logistics do the heavy lifting, but retain a weather-flex day: the Andaman does not follow a calendar. Prefer to arrange your own transport? See the 5-day independent itinerary and the Ko Lanta destination guide.

Days 1 and 2 — west-coast base and a land experience

Arrive at Saladan and settle around Klong Dao, Long Beach or Klong Nin. Use the next day for a welfare-led elephant sanctuary or a cooking class, then take a separate transfer to Lanta Old Town if time permits. That leaves no pressure to gamble on offshore weather before the main boat booking.

Choose one west-coast hotel and keep it for the full stay. Klong Dao is useful near Saladan, Long Beach is central for restaurants and collection points, and Klong Nin is quieter but may bring an earlier pickup. On arrival, confirm the guide’s meeting location, how far in advance to be ready and whether a southern-resort supplement applies. A transfer from Krabi can take longer than expected, so let the first sunset be unstructured rather than booking an excursion.

For elephant care, look for observation, feeding and education instead of riding, staged bathing or performances. A cooking class is a good alternative in rain and should be able to explain dietary options, market visits and transport. Lanta Old Town’s wooden shopfronts and cafés are worth a separate ride only if the experience schedule leaves real time; do not turn a relaxed land day into a cross-island dash.

Day 3 — Koh Haa snorkel package

Koh Haa is the priority package for clear-water snorkelling. Confirm southern-resort pickup, fees, gear, lunch and cancellation terms; take a dry bag and let the crew change the order of stops if conditions require it. Keep the evening beachside and quiet.

Live Koh Haa packages

This is a full offshore commitment, not a short add-on. The package normally removes the pier logistics, but sea state, currents and park decisions still govern the day. Pack reef-safe sunscreen, swimwear, a rash layer, water and medication before pickup; never count on cave, lagoon or beach access being identical to a brochure. Follow the crew at ladders and around coral, and keep the night free after return. A simple Long Beach dinner is a better finish than a late transfer.

Day 4 — beach and sunset buffer

Spend the day at Kantiang, Klong Nin or Long Beach, or use it as the replacement date if Haa moved. A guide can arrange a short mangrove kayak or sunset outing, but do not turn the buffer into a compulsory third boat. The relaxed west-coast finish is why Lanta feels different from a rushed island circuit.

Day 5 — Koh Rok or Four Islands

Choose Koh Rok for another reef-and-beach day, or Four Islands for limestone and cave scenery. Book one, not both. Your operator should be explicit about park fees and whether weather has changed cave or beach access.

Live Koh Rok and Four Islands tours

Live experience cards load in the article for: koh rok, four islands, island hopping.

Koh Rok is the natural choice for a second reef-and-beach day; Four Islands offers limestone scenery and a possible Emerald Cave circuit. Do not try to add both to the same stay. Check the operator’s hotel pickup, beach-landing, lunch and park-fee details, especially if you are based south of Long Beach. Cave access can be restricted by tide and the route may change for safety. Leave no ferry, flight transfer or long road journey scheduled after the boat returns.

Why this package pace works

Guided packages protect limited holiday time at the piers; the unstructured day protects the whole itinerary. For diving, mangroves and a second weather buffer, continue to the 7-day guided itinerary.

Guided works best here because the tours shoulder the early collections, crew briefings, transfers and changing marine conditions while you retain a generous land day. Compare the 5-day independent itinerary if you want to choose your own boat offices and drivers. For a fuller overview, read the Ko Lanta destination guide and the guided day-trip guide; a longer stay can add diving, kayaking and another weather window.
