Privacy

How we collect, use, and protect information when you use Plan My Getaways.

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what information Plan My Getaways (“we”, “us”) collects when you use planmygetaways.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. Plan My Getaways is a travel discovery site and independent Viator, Trip.com, and GetYourGuide affiliate. We do not require an account, and we do not process payments on this site.

Information we collect

  • Usage data. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site — for example pages viewed, search terms, filters, sort choices, product views, and clicks on Viator booking links. This typically includes device and browser information, approximate location derived by Google, and interaction events.
  • Approximate location. On the home page we may look up your public IP address via GeoJS to estimate city and country. We use that only to suggest nearby experiences and (when you have not chosen one) a default display currency. The result is cached in your browser for the current session.
  • Browser storage. We store short-lived preferences and caches in your browser: display currency, travel dates, and participant counts in sessionStorage; a short-lived destination catalog cache in localStorage (to reduce repeat API calls). These stay on your device and are not uploaded to a Plan My Getaways account (we do not run user accounts).
  • Messages you send us. If you email us or use the contact form, we only receive what you choose to send. The contact form opens a pre-filled draft in your email app via mailto:; nothing from that form is stored on our servers unless you send the message.
  • Newsletter signup. If you subscribe via the site footer newsletter form, we collect the email address you enter so we can send monthly travel inspiration. With each signup we also store the page path you were viewing, a coarse device type (mobile, tablet, or desktop, inferred from the browser), and an approximate city/country from an IP-based GeoJS lookup (the same source used for home suggestions). Submissions are processed by Netlify Forms on our host; we do not sell that address.

Information we do not collect

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect payment card details on Plan My Getaways. Booking and payment happen on Viator (or other third-party sites you choose to visit). Search participant counts are kept in your browser for convenience and are not sent with our product search requests.

How we use information

  • To operate, maintain, and improve Plan My Getaways
  • To personalize defaults such as currency and nearby experience suggestions
  • To understand which destinations and experiences are popular
  • To measure search, filter, and affiliate link performance
  • To respond to inquiries you send us
  • To send the monthly Travel Guides digest when you subscribe

Cookies and similar technologies

Google Analytics may set cookies or use similar technologies to recognize returning visitors and measure traffic. We also use browser sessionStorage and localStorage as described above. You can clear site data or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies may limit measurement, but core search and browsing should still work.

Third-party services

We rely on third parties to run the site. Their own privacy policies apply to data they process:

  • Viator. Product content and bookings are provided by Viator. Search and product requests are made through our site to Viator’s Partner API; when you follow a booking link, Viator’s Privacy and Cookies Statement applies.
  • Trip.com. Selected travel guides embed Trip.com hotel booking banners. Loading those banners or clicking through may share request data with Trip.com under their privacy policy.
  • GetYourGuide. Travel guide articles embed a GetYourGuide activity widget. Loading the widget or booking through it may share request data with GetYourGuide under their privacy policy.
  • Google Analytics. We use GA4 to measure site usage. Google may process data as described in the Google Privacy Policy and Google Analytics documentation.
  • Affiliate partner scripts. We load a third-party script from emrldtp.com for affiliate partner site verification and related measurement. That provider may receive your IP address and standard browser request data when the script loads.
  • GeoJS. Approximate IP-based location for home suggestions and, when you subscribe to the newsletter, city/country fields stored with that form submission (`get.geojs.io`).
  • Hosting and content delivery. The site is hosted on Netlify. Standard web server logs (such as IP address and requested URLs) may be processed by our host as part of delivering the site. Newsletter signups are submitted through Netlify Forms, which stores the email you provide plus the page path, device type, and approximate geo fields described above so we can send the digest and understand where subscribers joined from.
  • Maps, fonts, and images. Map tiles may load from OpenStreetMap; itinerary driving routes may be requested from the public OSRM demo (`router.project-osrm.org`); fonts from Google Fonts; some images from Unsplash. Those providers may receive your IP address when assets are requested.

Affiliate disclosure

Plan My Getaways participates in the Viator, Trip.com, and GetYourGuide affiliate programs. We may earn a commission when you book through links, banners, or widgets on this site. That does not change the price you pay.

International processing

Our service providers (including Google, Netlify, GeoJS, Viator, Trip.com, GetYourGuide, and affiliate partner scripts) may process information in countries other than where you live. If you use the site from the EU/UK or similar jurisdictions, note that analytics and hosting may involve transfers outside your region subject to those providers’ safeguards.

Data retention

Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics property settings. Browser sessionStorage clears when the tab or browser session ends; the destination cache in localStorage expires after about seven days (or when you clear site data). Emails you send are kept only as long as needed to respond and maintain a basic record of the conversation. Newsletter signup data (email, page path, device type, and approximate geo) is kept while the digest is active or until you ask us to remove it.

Children

Plan My Getaways is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices

You can clear stored preferences and caches in your browser, use private/incognito browsing, or block analytics cookies. For privacy questions or requests, email hello@planmygetaways.com.

Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date below reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
